Joint and back pain can have many causes, so the first step is understanding the pattern. Ayurveda commonly relates stiffness, degeneration and nerve pain to Vata, while inflammatory arthritis is described as Amavata.

At Bharadwaj Ayurveda in Althan, Surat, Dr. Jayveersinh J. Mahida (BAMS) reviews your diagnosis, movement, reports and current medicines before combining herbal medicine with suitable classical therapies.

Our approach

How we treat it, step by step.

01

Diagnosis & Nadi Pariksha

We examine the joint, assess your movement, and read your pulse to understand whether the problem is dry degeneration (Vata), inflammation (Amavata), or both. Pulse diagnosis guides everything.

02

Basti Panchakarma

Basti (medicated enema) is the classical master treatment for Vata and the core of lasting joint and spine care. A supervised course addresses the root, not just the surface.

03

External oil therapies

Targeted Kati Basti, Janu Basti, Abhyanga and Swedana warm, lubricate and relax the affected joints and muscles, easing pain and stiffness session by session.

04

Herbal medicine & leech therapy

Herbal formulations are selected according to the Ayurvedic assessment. Leech therapy (Raktamokshana) may be considered for selected local inflammatory conditions.

Joint & back pain · Common questions

Your questions, answered.

Which Ayurvedic treatment is best for joint pain?
There is no single treatment for every joint problem. Dr. Jayveersinh Mahida first reviews the diagnosis, examination and reports, then may recommend Basti, Kati Basti, Janu Basti, Abhyanga or herbal medicine as appropriate.
Can Ayurveda help arthritis and knee pain without surgery?
That depends on the diagnosis and degree of structural damage. Ayurveda may be used as supportive care for pain, stiffness and mobility, but some cases still need orthopaedic assessment or surgery.
How soon will I feel relief?
Response time varies with the cause, severity and duration of pain. Dr. Jayveersinh Mahida sets expectations after examining you and adjusts the plan during follow-up.
Is leech therapy used for pain?
It may be considered for selected local inflammatory conditions after examination. It is not suitable for everyone and is performed only under sterile, supervised conditions.
