Suvarnaprashan in Surat,
for growing children.
Suvarnaprashan (also called Swarnaprashan) is the classical Ayurvedic practice of giving children a few drops of purified gold (swarna bhasma) prepared with ghee and honey, a Sanskara described in the Kashyapa Samhita to support immunity, digestion, memory and healthy growth. At Bharadwaj Ayurveda in Althan, Surat, the drops are administered personally by Dr. Jayveersinh J. Mahida (BAMS) on every Pushya Nakshatra.
Families come to us from Althan, Vesu, Piplod, Bhatar, Adajan and across Surat, many on a standing monthly visit. Parents on our WhatsApp list receive the upcoming Pushya Nakshatra date a week in advance.
Why parents choose it.
Classical texts describe Suvarnaprashan as medhya (for the intellect) and balya (for strength). Families traditionally give it for:
Immunity
Traditionally used to support a child's natural resistance, described in Ayurveda as vyadhikshamatva.
Digestion & appetite
Traditionally given to support appetite and digestion, including for children who are fussy eaters.
Memory & learning
The texts class Suvarnaprashan as medhya: supporting memory, grasping power and speech development.
Strength & growth
Supporting healthy weight gain, strength and overall development through the growing years.
Skin & vitality
A healthy glow and general vitality, varna and ojas in the classical description.

1 · Birth to 16 years
Children from newborns to sixteen-year-olds can receive Suvarnaprashan. The dose is a few drops, adjusted to the child's age by Dr. Jayveersinh Mahida. Infants receive the smallest measure.
2 · Every Pushya Nakshatra
The dose is given on Pushya Nakshatra, the lunar day the classics single out for this Sanskara. It returns once every 27 days. The traditional course is 16 consecutive months, though every regular dose is considered beneficial. Missed a month? Simply continue from the next date.
3 · A five-minute visit
Come to the Althan clinic during the announced hours. The drops are given directly by the doctor, any questions about your child's appetite, sleep or immunity are answered on the spot, and you are back in your day within minutes.
Safety, done properly.
Suvarnaprashan should be properly prepared, dosed for the child's age and given under a qualified physician's care. At Bharadwaj Ayurveda, Dr. Jayveersinh Mahida gives every dose personally. Tell him about any ongoing illness, allergy or medication first.
Suvarnaprashan is not a substitute for vaccination. Your child's immunisation schedule must continue exactly as your paediatrician advises. This is a traditional, supportive practice for general immunity and development. The two run alongside each other, and we will never tell you otherwise.
First visit to the clinic? Every new patient, children included, can begin with a proper consultation and Nadi Pariksha. For mothers, see our women's health page, or browse all eight treatments.
